More art...

This is my most recent Collage. I recently purchased a scanner again, and could finally start finishing some of my work off digitally (though not all - I prefer getting my hands dirty sometimes).

I found some strange 1920's newspaper "meat notifications" (?) online and chose a section of it to overlay across some drawings I made on graph paper (kindly borrowed from Mr. ...thanks ;) ). I also found some lovely images of bird tattoos - which is where the little fellow in py picture came from. I've never seen a realistic-style bird tattoo in real life...but I do think they're lovely! I'd be lying if I said I didn't desperately want one...

Some Art...

I thought I'd put up some drawings/collages... So here is the first.

This is called "All Eyes". It is mixed media on canvas.
I've become rather ambivalent to the term "Mixed Media"... it's a sort of catch-all "mishmash" title given to describe something that escapes definition.

All Eyes comprises of the following ingredients:

  • acrylic paint
  • watercolour
  • some 70's style fabric (synthetic)
  • 40gsm paper
  • pen
  • graphite
  • pva
  • wood glue
  • pritt stik
  • some seeds I collected from a tree on a street, Brighton, Autumn 2008. ...they kept blowing in through the door of where I worked. My boss insisted on keeping the door open rain or shine - and on blustery September days, keeping these little airborne seeds out was rather difficult.

... 'til next time. :)

The Inaugural Post...

The photographs in this post are "Ghosts of Artworks Past" - or, rather, some of my past work that exists only in the realms of the interwebs.

One sad winter evening in 2009 - my external HD died it's final death. Taking with it every photograph, sketch, design piece, and digital remnant of any work I had done since leaving Art College in 2005.

What was even harder to stomach was the fact that I had turned on the HD that evening with the specific intent of backing EVERYTHING up. :(

So, in the loving memory of those lost ideas... I bring you some images. Enjoy.

These were all taken in 2007 on a freezing and snowy night, here in Brighton - coincidentally in the square in which I came to live 4 years later :) I always did like this square. I think the camera used was my trusty old Fuji Finepix something-or-other. It was quite a strange camera in that it had some semi-manual settings; so I just used to make sure it was a long exposure and snap my night-time walks. I preferred doing this at times to painstakingly setting up a shot. I enjoyed how the images came out like a swirling haze, with abstract shapes only making themselves clear as I re-walked my route in my mind.
